It has been my experience in dealing with the D.O.T., or any other law enforcement that less is more. Whenever having to deal with an officer of any type, remember that presentation is everything.
1. Never volunteer more information than requested
2. Be curteous and straight forward
3. Don’t be combative, especially if you cannot readily prove your point
4. Don’t overly quote the “law to the law.”
Keep in mind that the officer, like you is a human being. Treat him/her as such even if you don’t agree. The side of the highway is not the place to challenge authority! If need be, you can have your day in court.
